Stefani, Beckham, (Bill) Clinton Raise Funds for California Fire Recovery
Gwen Stefani, who grew up in Orange County, will donate the proceeds of last night’s concert in San Diego to the San Diego Foundation’s After-the-Fires Fund 2007, an initiative that will begin making its first grants later this week. The Fund’s initial priorities will be to support the fire rescue teams and to replenish their emergency preparedness capability; its long-term goal is to restore the communities and rebuild the lives affected by the fires.
Over the past week, the After-the-Fires Fund 2007 has received commitments for more than $3 million, including donations from the Home Depot Foundation, the National Football League Foundation, and the Amgen Foundation. Yesterday, Bill Clinton announced that he, too, would join in the efforts by hosting a fundraiser at the home of Ron Burkle on November 3rd. “The wildfires have been absolutely devastating. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, nearly 100 people have been injured, and the fires have burned an area twice the size of New York City. We must help the State of California recover from this destruction,” said Clinton.
A day after the Clinton fundraiser, David Beckham – who was sidelined much of this season because of injuries – will join his Los Angeles Galaxy teammates in a match against the Hollywood United FC, a team comprised of actors and former World Cup players. Proceeds from this match will go to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
