Toys for Tots and TONKA Celebrate 60th Year with a National Toy Drive
Yesterday, at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia, Billy Ray Cyrus kicked off the TONKA and Toys for Tots national toy donation drive with a rousing performance that included his signature song, Achy Breaky Heart. The star of the hit Disney series Hannah Montana serves as the program’s celebrity ambassador.
Both Toys for Tots and TONKA trucks turn 60 this year. In celebration of this milestone, the two organizations have joined forces to give and collect toys for children in need. A life-size replica of the classic yellow TONKA Dump Truck will tour the country through December to distribute the $3 million in toys donated by Hasbro. The national "Drive for Toys" will leave from Virginia and stop in select cities before ending in California.
The tour features a 30-foot Tonka Truck slide, along with a visual retrospective on Tonka and Toys for Tots over the years.
The national drive aims to impact hundreds of thousands of children this holiday season.
